What is needed to obtain a Georgia title for a
repossessed vehicle?
- A completed
MVD tag and/or title application (Form MV-1)

‘typed, electronically completed and printed or legibly hand printed in blue or black in the vehicle owner's full legal name and signed by the vehicle owner. If jointly owned,
each owner's full legal name, valid driver's license number and signature is required .
An individual's
full legal name would be his/her complete
name as it appears on his/her valid driver's license.
- Original valid title or manufacturer's statement of origin;
- Must be issued in the name(s) of parties from whom the vehicle
was repossessed or properly assigned to them;
- If titled in Georgia in the name(s) of the parties from
whom the vehicle was repossessed, the Georgia title should
be submitted only if available.
- If the party repossessing the vehicle is not titling the
vehicle in their name, then they must assign title to the
new owner(s) using the owner(s)' full legal names.
- Important: If the vehicle is titled in
another state and the repossessing
party
nor the purchasing
party
is resident of this state; a Georgia title will
not be issued.
- A legible copy of the contract between the repossessor and the
party
from whom the vehicle was repossessed, if the repossessor
is not recorded on the title as the lien or security interest
holder by the issuing agency. A copy of the contract is required
with a manufacturer's statement of origin. The contract must list
the vehicle as collateral showing a complete description of the
vehicle, year model, make of vehicle and vehicle identification
number (VIN), and be signed by the
party
from whom the vehicle
was repossessed.
- A completed
Form T-16 Affidavit of Repossession -
typed, electronically completed and printed or legibly hand printed and signed by the repossessor or their authorized agent.
- $18.00 title fee;
- $10.00 title penalty fee if the applicant(s) fails to apply
for a title within ninety-days (90) of the date of repossession
or if the applicant purchased the vehicle from the repossessor,
ninety-days (90) from the purchase date.
- $10.00 additional title penalty is due if the applicants previously
applied for a Georgia title in their name(s) for this vehicle
and the application was returned requesting additional action
before title issuance and compliance has not been made within
sixty-days (60) of the accompanying letter's date.
Pay all fees due in cash, check or money order payable to the office
processing your transaction, Department of Revenue
or the Office of the Tax Commissioner. Please do not send
cash through the mail.
If you are applying for both a Georgia title and a license plate
(tag), you must apply at the Tag office in the county
in Georgia where you reside. Click

If you are a Georgia resident, apply for your title as soon as
possible after you acquire ownership of the vehicle at your county
Tag office. You will be unable to register and obtain
a Georgia license plate (tag) without a Georgia title already issued
in your name or without applying for a title at the time of registration
when the vehicle requires a title in this state. Click
