What is needed to obtain an original Georgia title?

- A completed
MVD tag and/or title application (Form MV-1)
- typed, hand printed or electronically completed and printed in the vehicle owner's full legal name and signed by the vehicle owner.
If jointly
owned, each
owner's full legal name, valid driver's license number and signature is required.
An individual's full legal name is
his/her complete name as it appears on
his/her valid driver's license. For individuals, enter each owner's valid driver's
license number in the spaces
provided on this application. Click on any form name and/or number
on this page to
electronically complete
it for printing, signing and
submission. This application can be used to apply for both a title
and a license plate at your County Tag's Office.
If all owner(s) go in person to their County Tag's
Office with their valid driver's license, the required documents, and any applicable fees and taxes,
this application can be completed and printed for your
signature(s) and processing.
- Original valid title, statement of origin, or registration certificate
from a non-title state or country must accompany your title application.
This document must be either issued in your name or properly
assigned to you using your full legal name.
- A completed
Certification of Inspection, Form T-22B - ‘typed, electronically completed and printed or hand printed in blue or black ink and signed. This form must be completed and signed by either
a Georgia law enforcement officer or a County Tag Agent
or his or her designee after making a visual inspection of your
vehicle's serial plate. Altered or incomplete forms cannot be
accepted. This form is only needed with a 1986 or newer year model
vehicle that is currently registered in a state or country that
does not issue titles. This state does not issue titles for 1985
or older year model vehicles based on a registration certificate
from a non-title state or country.
- $18.00 title fee. Pay all fees due with cash, check or money
order made payable to the office processing your application, the Department
of Revenue (state) or the Office of the Tax Commissioner
(county). Please do not remit cash through the mail! Contact your County Tag Office for other acceptable methods of payment.
- $l0.00 title penalty is due if you fail to apply for a Georgia
title within thirty (30) days of the vehicle's purchase or acquisition
date. This penalty does not apply when your vehicle
is currently titled in your name(s) in another state or country.
- An additional $10.00 title penalty is due If you previously
applied for a Georgia title for this vehicle and your application
was returned requesting additional action before title issuance
and compliance has not been made within sixty (60) days of the
accompanying letter's date.
Apply for your title and license plate at the same time at the
Tag Office in the county where you reside in Georgia.
