What is needed to obtain a Georgia title for a
vehicle where a Guardian has been appointed?
- A
completed MV-1 title application - typed or printed
in blue or black ink electronically or legibly by-hand, except
for the signature, in the full legal name of the Ward and signed
by the Guardian. A natural person's full legal name is his or
her complete name as shown on his or her valid Georgia driver's
license or Georgia identification card. For natural persons, enter
each owner's valid Georgia driver's license number or Georgia
identification card number in the space provided. Click

- If you go in person to your county Tax Commissioner's office
with your valid Georgia driver's license or Georgia identification
card, the vehicle's current odometer reading (when an odometer
disclosure is required), the required documents and applicable
fees and taxes, this application can be completed on-line
and printed for your signature(s) and processing. Click

- Original valid title or manufacturer's statement of origin issued
in the vehicle owner(s)' name(s) or properly assigned to them.
- A certified copy of the Probate Judge's appointment of the Guardian.
A certified copy of any court document must have the Clerk of
the Court's signature and his or her seal or stamp affixed.
- $18.00 title fee.
- $10.00 title penalty will be assessed if the purchase date has
been altered.
- $10.00 title penalty is due if the owner(s) fail to apply for
a Georgia title within ninety-days (90) of the vehicle's purchase
or acquisition date. This fee is not due if the vehicle is currently
titled in the applicant(s) name(s).
- $10.00 additional title penalty is due if the owner(s) previously
applied for a Georgia title in his and/or her name(s) and the
application was returned requesting additional action before title
issuance and compliance has not been made within sixty-days (60)
of the accompanying letter's date.
Pay all fees due in cash, check or money order payable to the
office processing the transaction, Office of the Tax Commissioner
or Department of Revenue. Please do not send
cash through the mail! Some counties accept credit cards.
Where to Apply
Apply for your title and license plate (tag) at the
Tax Commissioner's office in the county in Georgia where you,
the owner(s) reside. When applying for a license plate and title
at the same time, you must also comply with all of the requirements

Sale of Vehicle By Guardian
Before the Guardian can sell the vehicle, written permission must
be obtained from the Probate Judge. The purchaser(s), if Georgia
residents, must apply for a Georgia title in their name(s) at the
Tax Commissioner's office in the county in Georgia where they
reside or to the
Motor Vehicle Division of the Department of Revenue by submitting the following:
- A
completed MV-1 application - typed or printed in blue

in the purchaser(s)' full legal name(s) and signed. If jointly
owned, each owner must sign. A natural person's full legal name
is his or her complete name as shown on his or her valid Georgia

identification card number in the space provided on this application.

- If all of the purchaser(s) go in-person to their county
Tax Commissioner's office with their valid Georgia driver's
license or Georgia identification card, the vehicle's current
odometer reading (when an odometer disclosure is required),
the required documents and applicable fees and taxes, this
application can be completed on-line and printed for the purchaser(s)'
signature(s) and processing. Click

- Original valid title - Properly assigned to the purchaser(s)
by the Guardian.
- A certified copy of the court document, signed by the Probate
Judge, authorizing the Guardian to sell the vehicle on behalf
of the Ward must be submitted. Certified copies of court documents
must have the Clerk of the Court's signature and his or her seal
or stamp affixed
- $18.00 title fee.
- $10.00 title penalty will be assessed if the purchase date on
the title conveying ownership to the applicant(s) has been altered.
- $18.00 title penalty if the owner(s) fail to apply for a Georgia
title in their name(s) within ninety-days (90) of the vehicle's
purchase date.
- $18.00 additional title penalty is due if the purchaser(s) previously
applied for a Georgia title in their name(s) for this vehicle
and their application was returned requesting additional action
before title issuance and compliance has not been made within
sixty-days (60) of the accompanying letter's date.
