I received my Georgia certificate of title but
it reflects incorrect information. How can I obtain a corrected
title?
To apply for a new Georgia title reflecting the
correct information, submit the following to the Tag
office in the county in Georgia where you reside or to this Department's
Motor Vehicle Division:
- Your original Georgia title
- A completed and signed Affidavit of Correction, Form MV-18, showing both the incorrect and correct information
- A completed and signed MVD tag and/or title application, Form MV-1 , if any information has changed since the title was issued, i.e. address, lien satisfied or paid, etc. Except for the signatures, this application must be typed, electronically completed and printed or legibly hand printed in blue or black ink, in the record owner's names showing the correct information. If jointly owned, each owner's full legal name, valid driver's license number, state of issue and signature is required. An individual's full legal name is his/her complete name as it appears on his/her valid driver's license.
- If all owners go in person to their County Tag office with their valid driver's license and their original title, this application can be completed and printed for your signatures and processing.
- Lien or security interest release when the title reflects a lien or security interest that has been satisfied or paid but has not been released in the spaces provided on the title. A separate lien or security interest release is not needed if the lien or security interest holder has released their interest in the vehicle on the vehicle's title. In this case, please do not place this satisfied lien or security interest information on the title application. Except for liens and security interests recorded on Georgia titles for mobile homes, cranes and vehicles weighing more than 10,000 pounds gross vehicle weight, any lien or security interest recorded on a Georgia title for 10 years from the title's issue date shall be considered satisfied and a release shall not be required.
- $18 title fee. Pay all fees due with cash, check, or money order made payable to the office processing your request, Office of the Tax Commissioner or the Department of Revenue. Please do not remit cash through the mail. This fee is not due if the documents supporting the title's issuance, on microfilm with this Department, reflect the correct information.
Important
The Motor Vehicle Division only retains copies of title records for 5 years from the title's issue date. If our records do not support the requested change, then certain information cannot be changed or cannot be changed without a completed
Affidavit to Support a Request for Correction of a Georgia Certificate of Title, Form MV-18A, and additional documents. Please read the instructions on this form before completing. You may wish to contact your County Tag Office for assistance. Click on any form name or number on this page to view the form and/or to electronically complete it for printing, signing and submission by mail or in person.
