Fees for Motor Vehicle Tag, Title, or Lien Records
Important: On June 1, 2003 the
fees for obtaining mirofilm records; certified tag and title records,
and letters of verification increased. See current fees below.
- $.50 (fifty cents) for a printout of tag information for one
vehicle. If there is no information, the fee is still charged.
- $.50 (fifty cents) for a printout of title and lien information
for one vehicle. If there is no information, the fee is still
charged.
- $1.00 (one dollar) for a printout of tag, title and lien information
for one vehicle. If there is no information, the fee is still
charged.
- $.50 (fifty cents) for one research of our records by name.
If a record is found, you will be provided with a printout of
motor vehicle title and lien information. If there is no information,
the fee is still charged.
- $5.00 (five dollars) for microfilm copies of documents that
supported title issuance for titles issued within the last five-years
(5). Microfilm records of documents supporting title issuance
for titles issued prior to the last five-years (5) are no longer
available. If there is no information, the fee is still charged.
- $10.00 (ten dollars) for a certification of a title record.
If there is no information, the fee is still charged.
- $10.00 (ten dollars) for a certification of a tag record (printout).
If there is no information, the fee is still charged.
- $5.00 (five dollars) for a letter that provides verification
that a vehicle is not required to be titled.
- $5.00 (five dollars) for a general salvage Information letter.
The letter cannot be picked up, it will be mailed.

You may submit your request by mail
or in-person to the Research Unit of the Motor Vehicle Division
(MVD) of the Department of Revenue.
In-person requests, require a completed MV-20
Request for Motor Vehicle Data form, the receptor's valid
driver's license or government-issued identification card and
the required research fees. |

| What is Needed? |
Valid driver's license or government-issued
identification card, for in-person requests. Signed written
request or completed MV-20
(Request for Motor Vehicle Data) form;
Proof
of interest in vehicle (if required). Self-addressed stamped
envelope for mail-in requests. Payment for total fees due in
cash, check or money order payable to the Department of Revenue. Please do not remit cash through the mail. |
Important: The name of a motor vehicle's insurer
and the insurance status on the state's records will only
be released upon request from an authorized party
(see below) and the payment of the required research fee.
Authorized parties: The vehicle's
owner; a law enforcement officer and any other person authorized
to receive the insurer's name and the insurance status, under the
powers of a subpoena approved by the Legal Services Section of the
Department of Revenue.
