What is needed to obtain a Georgia title for a repossessed vehicle?

1) A completed and signed  Form MV-1 Title/Tag Application.

2) An original valid title or manufacturer's statement of origin;
a) Must be issued in the name(s) of parties from whom the vehicle was repossessed or properly assigned to them;

b) If titled in Georgia in the name(s) of the parties from whom the vehicle was repossessed, the Georgia title should be submitted only if available;

c) If the party repossessing the vehicle is not titling the vehicle in their name, then they must assign title to the new owner(s) using the owner(s)' full legal names.

Important:  If the vehicle is titled in another state and neither the repossessing party nor the purchasing party is resident of this state; a Georgia title will not be issued.

3) A legible copy of the contract between the repossessor and the party from whom the vehicle was repossessed, if the repossessor is not recorded on the title as the lien or security interest holder by the issuing agency. A copy of the contract is required with a manufacturer's statement of origin. The contract must list the vehicle as collateral showing a complete description of the vehicle, year model, make of vehicle and vehicle identification number (VIN), and be signed by the party from whom the vehicle was repossessed.

4) A completed and signed  Form T-16 Affidavit of Repossession.

5) $18.00 title fee.
